Members: The KAPP Board of Directors and its Managed Care Workgroup is excited to offer a pre-conference work session on MLTSS (additional charge) on Wednesday, September 14th from 1-5 pm, Marriott East in Louisville. Attendance is limited to 100 at $50 per person. The target audience is Executive level management, CEO’s, CFO’s, Business owners, Business Managers, Board members, lobbyists, etc. A link to register for the KAPP Conference, will include an option to add the $50 pre-session to your registration. (Someone can also attend this session only, as long as they are directly affiliated with a KAPP member.)

Rich VandenHeuvel, MSW, Principal

Prior to coming to HMA, Rich has facilitated regional and statewide technical and strategic responses to opportunities presented by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Medicaid managed care approaches to disabled populations. He has extensive experience collaborating with government partners at all levels, building consensus among diverse stakeholders, and moving projects from conception to completion. Rich has served as direct support staff, as a care manager, as a clinical director and as a provider CEO for mental health organizations serving adults and children living with mental illness, developmental disabilities and/or substance use disorders for over 20 years. He has also served as the CEO of a managed behavioral health organization serving all of these populations, including serving as the spokesperson and lead contract negotiator for the 10 Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans responsible for the Specialty Behavioral Health Services Benefit throughout Michigan. Since coming to HMA, Rich has been extensively involved in market analysis and business acumen development for both MCOs and provider organizations with particular focus on populations with intellectual disabilities and behavioral health needs. He received his master’s degree in social work from Grand Valley State University and his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University.

HMA (Health Management Associates) will partner with KAPP leadership to provide an intensive introduction to KAPP members of the emerging national trends in the service market for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including: highlighting the challenges and opportunities in transitions in the current I/DD support system; identifying critical system elements to support these transitions and beginning a discussion regarding a path forward for Kentucky’s I/DD support system.

Specific tasks to support this project will include research and compilation into I/DD market and management trends, preparation and coordination (with KAPP leadership and other conference presenters) of presentation materials, presentation at the introductory session of the upcoming pre-KAPP conference on Wednesday, September 14th from 1-5 pm, Marriott East in Louisville.
